Washburn N4 neck crack

Post subject:  Washburn N4 neck crack
Hi, I have a Washburn N4. It has a small crack on the back of the neck. It has been like this for the two years I have had it and not got any worse. I tried to wick thin CA into the crack but none went in. Should I be worried? Is there a better fix? Thanks ImageImage

How do you know none got in? Thin ca would wick into that crack IMO. I have an old Yamaha with a crack like that that I attribute to the truss rod. Maybe, maybe not. If it’s not getting worse just play it.

Apparently, the oiled surface rejected the CA? If the crack hasn't opened in 2 years, don't sweat it. Wait until there is a real problem, then you can deal with it. Until then - play the darn thing!

I'd be very wary of dripping thin CA into this crack. You might end up glueing the truss rod.

Looks like the truss rod channel has been cut too deep and there's not enough wood left to withstand the stress at this point. I had a couple with just such a problem recently in the shop. The channel was so deep that in both cases there was only a very thin veneer of wood left.

There's not much you can do that'd be economically sound. I too say that you should keep on playing it without worrying about it until it worsens, in which case I'm afraid you’ll be better off replacing the neck.
